Position Overview:

In collaboration with the Chief Financial Officer, the Physician Advisor provides leadership to facilitate optimal utilization of resources at Broward Health Medical Center (BHMC). The individual promotes understanding and cooperation between the physicians and BHMC through communication, collaboration, and education. The Physician Advisor facilitates improvements in clinical practice to achieve better performance, improved cost, reduced length of stay, fewer readmissions, and superior patient care. This role assists Administration in reducing financial risks associated with denials that are due to providing medically unnecessary or preventative services and extended length of stays.

Essential Functions include but not limited to:

  • Leadership-Provide clinical and administrative leadership for the planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating of patient care services, including regional peer review activities.
  • Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI)-Act as a liaison between multiple parties, both internal and external, and the hospital medical staff to facilitate accurate and complete documentation.
  • Utilization Management-Demonstrate up-to-date knowledge of newest technologies, clinical practice guidelines and treatments.  Provide oversight of utilization, cost, and outcomes. 
  • Education-Understand regulatory requirements and provide education on this information both internally and externally based on need.
  • Physician Strategy-Actively support the medical staff office, and BHMC in building physician relationships.
  • Discharge Planning-Support and collaborate to facilitate effective and safe discharge planning supporting the needs of each case.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • MD or D.O. required.
  • MBA, MPH, MHA, or similar management degree preferred but not required.
  • 5 years or more of related experience.
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Florida
  • American Board of Quality Assurance and Utilization Review Physicians (ABQAURP) or similar certification preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of InterQual, Milliman, MGC, and similar guidelines.
